Leeds International Festival is the UK’s leading metropolitan celebration of new ideas and innovation. The festival invites the world’s leading creators, thought-leaders and pioneers to Leeds to disseminate new ideas and discuss the world of tomorrow.
Working closely with the LeedsBID team, we developed a compelling strategic vision for the festival—a festival of new ideas and innovation. There was a gap in the city (and wider country) for a vibrant and dynamic festival centred around idea generation and discussion. One that could boldly confront the challenges of the 21st century and help us navigate through one of the most critical anchor points in human history.
Leeds International Festival required a brand identity that amplified its audacious and ambitious vision. A visual language representative of human ingenuity and innovation. A simple but distinctive logo marque (known as The Burst) was created to represent the birth of an idea. Set at a 45 degree angle tilting forward, it suggests momentum and growth, complimenting the progressive attitudes of the festival.
A conspicuous single pink colour scheme was designed to dress the city and give the festival a powerful visual presence throughout the festival. In the build up to the event, we collaborated with many of Leeds' landmarks to turn the city pink, illuminating the buildings and streets of Leeds in a bright pink glow.

Over 70% of the festival programme is selected through an open call. For L19, we curated a series of videos featuring past successful applicants explaining how the open call has enabled them to successfully launch their ideas to the world.
This resulted in over 450 proposals being submitted (up from 55 the previous year) from 30 different countries. The success of the open call has paved the way for a new kind of festival model, one rooted in openness and inclusivity, where anyone can submit an idea and have it realised.
Our implementation of the brand each year is comprehensive, involving the production of printed programmes, websites, social media marketing campaigns, billboards, poster campaigns, and video trailers.

Since launching in 2017, Leeds International Festival has established itself as the UK’s leading metropolitan ideas festival. Its open and collaborative approach has won enrolment from many of the city’s largest organisations, such as Leeds Beckett University, VASTINT, and the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
Alumni speakers of the festival include Helen Sharman CMG OBE, the first Briton in space; winter olympic gold medal winner Amy Williams; author Matt Hague; and biologist and broadcaster Professor Alice Roberts. As well as pioneering creatives such as Yves Tumor, Matty Bovan, and Mykki Blanco.
