Transform is an engine room for urgent, of the moment theatre in Leeds. The biennial Transform festival creates citywide takeovers of powerful theatre, dance, and performance; bringing together some of the boldest creators from around the world.
In 2016, Transform Festival, then a part of the Leeds Playhouse, became an independent not-for-profit organisation. We worked with Transform to create a bold new brand identity to reflect Transform’s evolution as an independent theatre production company with a local and global outlook.
We designed a distinctive dual colour scheme — magenta and dark orange – that amplifies its loud, daring and playful nature. The primary typeface, GT Walsheim Extra Bold, is uncompromising, punchy and impactful. While the weaving lines reflect Transform’s mission to reach out and connect with international artists from across the globe.
For Transform 19, the marketing team focused on a strong multifaceted digital marketing campaign in the lead up to the festival. We created a series of social media assets and templates that enabled them to communicate engaging stories and core messages from the festival’s new programme of events and productions.
We also designed and developed a new website, integrating a ticketing system so that the festival could sell tickets directly from the website for the first time.
“From the inception of our brand to its evolution - Rabbit Hole have consistently been Transform’s ally for creativity, distinctiveness and innovation. They supported our organisation to hone and articulate our vision, and worked with us in a collaborative and supportive way to bring the brand to life and communicate it authentically to audiences. Its rare to find an agency of such quality, vision and ambition, they are a a vital part of our team.” Amy Letman, Transform Creative Director
Poster and billboard campaigns in the city gave Transform 19 a strong visual presence in the build up to the festival and brought the festival’s striking imagery to the fore. The Transform Lines playfully weave through the subjects and performers of each production.
The new brand identity has given the Transform team the tools to grow and establish the festival as one of the UK’s most daring and powerful theatre and performance events.
In April 2019 Transform held its largest biennial festival to date, igniting the city of Leeds with trailblazing theatre, dance, parties, and adventure. The programme featured international artists and performers from China, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, and Germany.
